Get a dumb terminal (or run a terminal program like Hyperterm on your PC) and connect to the serial port marked "A" on the back of the IPC/IPX. When you power on the IPC, it will figure out that it has no keyboard or monitor connected to it directly and will start from the serial port. You can then install your

Pull up Hyperterm, or something similar, configure it to talk to the appropriate COM port (at 2400bps to start with), 8 bit, no parity. Type AT, followed by return. Don't type anything else at all. You may not see what you are typing. If you make a mistake, press return and start again. If you get the response "OK"

Help!! Modem 'No dialtone' problem
A 300 Baud Setup Here is an example of creating a 300 baud Hyperterm setup. It is intended for 'typing in' Text to your Apple II which is set to accept inputs through a serial port via the IN#2 command. So, the setup uses a fairly long "Line Delay" and uses no "Flow Control". 1- Start Hyperterm, get past any intro

I swapped in a null modem adapter and still no response. I then pulled the cable off the unit and put a scope on pin 2 and

In article <3770F91C.B6BB3...@mindspring.com>, Art Jackson <artja...@mindspring.com> HyperTerm doesn't have a place to enter any extra settings to reconfigure the modem, like DUN has, when you use it to dialup the number.

To HyperTerm it looks like the system is "pausing" but I am watching the throughput in System Monitor. It drops down to zero or a couple hundred cps and then picks back up again. I originally had the Aspen and bought the Sportster because I thought this was a modem problem, no idea now though.

That setup works fine with Hyperterm. We try the same thing with WinXP, a modem and Hyperterm and while we can connect to the USR modem on the other end, no data gets displayed. I have checked to make sure the Hyperterm settings are identical between the W2K workstation and the WinXP workstation.

However, after a while, the Hyperterm shows me 'NO CARRIER' message. Thanks. That means the modem is not establishing a connection with the remote modem for some reason. You might try adding M1 to your dial string (ATX3M1DT) and listen to the calling sequence. You should hear the modem dial and begin negotiation
